| | FORD COUPE (1934) CAR HISTORYCar review on FORD COUPE The first mass production car to use a V8, the 1934 Ford
also went away from the slab-sided look which had dated previous models
to horse-drawn carriages. The swept-back grille and swooping fenders gained
many fans, and because all 1934 models came with a V8 they were also popular
to tune up or at least use for their upgraded parts. As such, hot rodders
loved them. The 1934 used an era-typical separate steel chassis, and these
remain on many of the hot rodded cars even now. This car even uses the
stock beam front axle, but with modern telescopic dampers. At the rear
it's more high-tech with the use of a late-model Corvette independent
suspension. This hot rod has a period appearance with many accessories
of the era. It goes like a modern supercar though, thanks to a tuned small-block
Chevy which has been bored out to 358 ci (5.8 litres).
