| | PLYMOUTH 'CUDA 383 (1971) CAR HISTORYCar review on PLYMOUTH 'CUDA 383The 'Cuda was
a winner for Chrysler and was their most successful 'E-body' car. It used
the same front end as the full-sized B-body cars and so was well suited
for the biggest V8s on offer from Dodge and Plymouth. The 1971 'Cuda 383
had a 383ci (6.3-litre) V8 which shared the block, heads, exhaust and
camshaft from the 440, with the crankshaft having less stroke, which meant
less displacement. Although not the quickest muscle car out, the 'Cuda
383 did put out huge torque and could still produce mid-14 second quarters.
The chassis was conventional Chrysler, using torsion bars up front and
leaf springs on the Dana 60-equipped rear axle. Stiffer springs all around
improved handling and the Sure-Grip differential helped traction. Because
of less demand, the 'Cuda 383 was produced only for two years, then axed.
Today, however, collectors pay high prices for them.
