the first production Trans Am of 1969, the Turbo Trans Am had echo that
original car by being powerful, ground-breaking, and a driver's machine.
Pontiac came up with the Turbo Trans Am, loaded with extras not just for
performance but comfort too. All of the 20th anniversary models came with
the WS6 handling package which comprised uprated springs and shocks, thicker
anti-roll bars front and rear, a torque arm for better rear traction,
and Panhard rod to locate the axle. These modifications benefited the
car because it could pull 0.89g on a skid pad. The powerplant was straight
from the previous year's Buick Grand National and used a Garrett turbo,
intercooler and engine management for massive power comparable to a V8,
though the V6 made the Trans Am lighter. All bar 50 of the 1,555 cars
came with T-tops.
